What makes a social entrepreneur? It’s an individual who establishes an enterprise, cooperative, or non-profit with the aim of solving social challenges or effecting social change. Social entrepreneurs are driven by their mission-statement.
This track is designed for social entrepreneurs who wish to be mindful of the social and economic impact of their product or service. The program combines the expertise needed from the technology and social economy sector. Tailored coaching is available for social enterprises, nonprofits and cooperatives.
There is an innate ability within ourselves to explore and become innovative thinkers once we accept that the current system in place by the government and/or the private sector is not enough, or is simply broken. What we aim to do is help individuals build on their innovative solutions around social challenges by surrounding them with experts from the social economy and technology sector.
The impact from the product or service can be local, provincial, national or even international.
Examples of social challenges supported by District 3 include, education, food security, non-profit collaboration, and emerging culture.
The social entrepreneurship program is an intensive roadmap that sets a strong foundation for fast development guided towards success. Social entrepreneurs, and their teams, will be able to recognize the viability of their idea with personalized coaching and feedback geared toward challenging assumptions and finding ways to validate them.
With a competitive framework, including two elimination rounds, participants are continuously pushed to create their best work. This program is designed to accompany social entrepreneurs in building a startup by providing them with the tools, resources, and knowledge necessary to succeed in this initial—and essential stage—of their development.

“The twelve weeks spent in the validation program have provided the perfect environment for us to drive ahead with our project more than we thought possible in such a short period of time. We would recommend this program to anyone seeking to validate their idea, and who would like to acquire a solid base of knowledge, skills and support for their start-up. I would definitely do it again.”
